Consultation

If you’re looking for diagnostic clarification, a second opinion, or an expert review of your medication list, look no further. Dr. Hammel offers in-depth, comprehensive psychiatric consultations which include a detailed written report to be shared with your doctor(s). Click here to download an information sheet.

Medication

As a medical doctor (MD) with an additional 4 years of training in Psychiatry, Dr. Hammel is well-versed in psychopharmacology (psychiatric medications). He was trained at the Institute of Living at Hartford Hospital, one of the oldest psychiatric institutions in the country and part of the “Ivy League” of Psychiatry.

Intervention

If you haven’t responded to medications or prefer to explore alternative treatments, Dr. Hammel can also continue your care in his other practice, Polaris Psychiatry, which offers TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) and esketamine (Spravato) treatments for conditions such as treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, chronic pain, and otherwise.

Diagnosis

Good treatment begins with good diagnosis. As an experienced diagnostician with a special interest in dynamic case formulation, Dr. Hammel will perform a thorough clinical history and evaluation, review your health records and, with your permission, speak with your other treaters. Dr. Hammel believes that understanding the full picture is the foundation of good care.

Treatment Plan

As part of your initial visit, Dr. Hammel will work with you to develop a treatment plan together which may include laboratory studies, psychotherapy, medication, and other considerations. His goal is for you to feel informed about your care and in agreement with his treatment plan.

Practice Management

Dr. Hammel offers a comprehensive seminar and individual consultation for other psychiatrists hoping to start their own private practices. The seminar is approximately 3 hours long and includes a comprehensive start-to-finish checklist, a complete array of documentation templates, and other resources. Please message Dr. Hammel directly for more information.
